Take two of writing this post... note to self, if I scroll too high on the iPad browser's screen, it'll refresh and clear out my entry. 🙃 So save often.
What I'm Up To
I haven't posted much lately, not for a lack of writing blog posts (as I have a handful of drafts that I'm not sure I'm going to post). But for having that feeling of if I'm going to post something, it needs to be something "worth" reading. But what's "worth" reading, anyway? And isn't the point of this blog to just post when I feel like it? So this post is just to wrap up what's going on with me lately and help break that feeling. I should be able to post trashy posts if I want to.
This one isn't even turning out that trashy, it's honestly longer than I expected going in. Maybe it won't help with that feeling after all. Oh well! Maybe next time I'll do a short one.
So here's some quick news for me:
Right now I'm reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and Godkiller by Hannah Kaner. Enjoying both so far but particularly Fangirl. I'm big on fantasy as my genre but this book I have a bias towards since it's set in my hometown, but honestly the main character I find relatable in a nostalgic sort of way.
I just bought a new gaming PC and am in the process of setting it up. It arrived yesterday. It's not the most high end thing, but I don't need the most high end, and it's a definitive upgrade from what I was using anyway. Dane was telling me I'd need a new one if I want to play the new Monster Hunter coming out this month - and I really, really do. 😄 All that's left is to remember how to get my HDD out of the old computer, because I don't remember how it slid into the slot in the first place, haha. I ended up just buying a pre-built PC from Best Buy, over here. (No, that's not an affiliate link. At least, I don't think it is - it's not mine but I did paste it from Tom's Hardware.) Maybe I'll talk about the computer here after I've had a chance to use it a bit.
I reorganized my art desk, again. I'm hoping to become reinvigorated with my webcomic, but life has been so busy it's hard to sit down with it. Starting to float the idea of a longer break, but I keep taking breaks and they don't help. So not really sure what to do just yet.
We started a Pathfinder game with some of Dane's coworkers, but have only had session 0 so far. Every other meeting has been canceled because people are busy, and I'm craving to play my new summoner, haha. I'm new to PF2e and was so stoked they had summoners! I based my eidolon off of the Wind Spirit from Aion, a game I love aesthetically but sucked to play.
Trying to finish Pokemon Scarlet still. I really wish I liked this one, but I need to at least finish it. I enjoy watching competitive Pokemon players on youtube, especially when they give commentary about why they chose their moves/stats/etc, because the depth of Pokemon's combat system is very interesting. But I could never be a competitive player, haha. Not enough time and there's too many pokemon and abilities to choose from.
Aaaand tonight we're going to go see Moulin Rouge, live downtown. I have no idea what it's about but Dane likes it, so it should be fun.
Dog News
So we have a few big updates in the "dogs we own" department. First up, we have a new puppy! Douglas the basset hound.
Not my ideal breed, but bassets are incredibly sweet and loving. We have a lot of potty (and other) training ahead, but he's taking to it pretty well and seems pretty smart. I'm looking forward to having a buddy to go on lunch break walks with, too.
Second, we had to put down Dane's dog of 15 years, Paxton the miniature schauzer, mid-January. We'd been forced to cancel a wellness checkup for him because of a snow storm (and then the snow storm didn't happen, so... that was cool 😒) and we knew it would be sometime soon, but we didn't have the luxury of picking the day to say goodbye. It's tough to be torn between letting your dog live as long as he can versus planning out his perfect final day.
Dane and I had already been floating the idea of getting a basset hound as our next dog. Or rather, he was trying to convince me for the last year. A few days before we put him down, some basset puppies were posted online and Dane was sending me pictures. After the fact, we talked about the puppies again, and I told him that I was okay with getting one. If he had just brought up getting a new dog out of the blue, I may have tried to talk him out of it, as that's a totally normal feeling when you lose a pet.
