🐉 Flight Rising - Night of the Nocturne

I haven't talked about Flight Rising here yet, though I'd say it's my main hobby right now when I have free time. If you aren't familiar, it's a browser pet game. Think Neopets, but without the Flash games and every pet you can own is a dragon, with more... detailed? artwork. I feel like people describe it as a petsite for adults, but honestly if you look at the forums, there's a lot of kids on the site anyway. My profile is breathe2 if you're curious.

This week, the site's holiday event started: Night of the Nocturne (NotN). It's a two-week long event themed around mimics and Nocturne, which are the Shadow-element dragons on the site known for mimicry. During the event, an item called Strange Chests drop, which can contain a variety of good items, among them being Nocturn eggs. Dragon eggs of any kind always sell well, as there are so many different color combinations on the site that hatching one that you want can be difficult, so it's its own game of chance. Opening ten chests averages one dragon egg1, which is a huge increase in the rate of eggs for the average player.

It's widely anticipated by the community as the biggest event of the year, and people spend multiple months preparing for it in various ways.

Higgins the Nocturne

Higgins is the Nocturne mascot and storekeep for the Night of the Nocturne event. He's dressed as a butler and has a haunted mansion aesthetic to him.

Just about every site activity has a chance to drop you a chest. If you don't get a chest, you're probably getting one of the items you can trade to Higgins, the NotN shop keeper, for a chest. So eventually you WILL get chests, even if you have bad luck. The best ways to get chests are by bonding with familiars, the attachable "pets" on a dragon's profile, or by fighting in the Coliseum, the grindable turn-based rpg you can use your dragons in.

The first day I got somewhere over 100 chests. Today... at least 50? I've been selling some and opening others so I can get a mix of gems and dragon eggs, along with the new familiars released. My personal goals right now are to save up for some of the more expensive familiars on the site, the festival sprites from the game's first year running. I have two so far out of eleven; at least one I will never get, maybe two. The others are very expensive but attainable, so hopefully this event will boost my money enough to get me one or two more.

And I like to hatch at least one egg each year, so the one I got this year is colored as Raspberry/Dust/Gloom. The two greys pair together well, not so sure about the raspberry yet, but I have an idea at least for what I may do with her. If I decide to keep her, that is.

The hatchling is over here if you want to look! She has a scry on her profile.

Anyway, that's what I'm doing with my Christmas this year. Like I said in my last blog, I need a distraction right now, so I'm glad that this event is here to help take my mind off of things right now. For the rest of us, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year.

  1. The actual egg rate might even be lower than one egg per ten chests, but this is still a huge increase compared to the rest of the year.
